About

This Jean Baptiste is the first son of Jean Baptiste and Barbe Coiteaux. Jean Baptise will have 11 children with M-Marguerite Brasseau and perhaps one more with M-Josephe Desranlot. He is 25 when he marries M-Marguerite and she is 18. She will bear her first daughter a year later. She will bear five sons and five daughters over the course of 21 years.

M-Marguerite dies in 1756, perhaps in childbirth with Gabriel. She would have been two months shy of her 40th birthday. Jean Baptiste remarries two years later at age 49, while M-Josephe is 51. They will have one son that same year (1758), though it is unclear since the records have no direct link.

Jean Baptiste above begins the “Woonsocket” line, and his brother Francois (Gen. #4.5) begins the “Manitoba” line (reference email from Paul Lamoureux dated 8 March, 2011 for this lineage). • Jean Baptiste Hogue – AFGS “Jette” book indicates year of birth as 1709. Ilene Trainor email indicates “1708/1709” dates. “AFGS” “PRDH” database shows the 1709 date. AFGS “Fichier Histor” book of Quebec marriages from 1731 to 1825 page 10015 indicates that J-Baptiste is 25 and M-Marguerite is 18 years of age when they marry.
• Brasseau vs. Brazeau — M. Marguerite’s surname is shown as “Brosseau” in the “AFGS” “GPFR” source material.
• Desranlot vs. Desranleau — Marie Joseph(t)e’s surname appears as “Desranleau” in some source documents and as “Deranlault” in the “AFGS” “ROU003” source material. She is also shown as the widow of “Joseph Rivard.” “M.-Josephte and Rivard” marry in 1726, when she was 19 years of age, and have 11 children. She is 51 when she marries Jean Baptiste.
• Joseph Hogue – It is unclear if this Joseph is born to Marie Josephe Desranlot in 1758. His year of birth is based solely on a “PRDH” burial file, which shows him to be 15 years of age at the time of his death in 1773, but this file does not indicate parents or siblings. His listing here is purely a “guess” on the part of (Generation 11.32) Marcel. A “PRDH” search for children of J-Baptiste and M.-Josephe Desranlot resulted in “No Record Found.” It is also possible that he may be part of a separate line of Hogues and not part of this “tree.”
• Typically, the location of Canada is shown for familiarity purposes. At this time in Canadian history, it would have been known as “Nouvelle France” (New France). See (Generation 11.32) Marcel’s “Introduction” and “Story of Pierre” for additional information. New France became the British Province of Quebec in 1763 after France ceded it in the Treaty of Paris at the end of the Seven Years’ War.
