About

This Francois will be father to 16 children born of three different partners over the course of 28 years. Francois’ first child is a son, named after his father with the middle name (and likely used as primary name) of “Amable,” a Latin-derived French word for “lovable” or “worthy of love.” Francois is 22 years old when his son is born and his partner M-Marguerite is of unknown age. She will bear eight children over a 15-year span. Two, that we know of, do not survive into adulthood.

M-Marguerite dies in 1749, and Francois quickly marries another in 1751. Francois’ second partner, Therese, will have one son and three daughters in a short span of three years. Therese and M-Josephe might have been twins, but it is also possible the documentation is incorrect and there was only one of them. It is likely that if M-Josephe was born, she did not survive, as there is another M-Josephe born in 1759.

Therese Monarque dies in 1754 at age 25, likely from one of the births. Francois marries again a year later to partner M-Charlotte, 22 years old at the time, while he was 42. With her he will have four more children — a son and three daughters. It is unclear if any of them survive into adulthood.

  • Francois — (Gen #4.5) Francois is brother to (Gen #4.3) Jean Baptiste. Francois and M-Marguerite above begin the “Manitoba” line — a whole tree of descendants that stay in Manitoba, Canada. (Gen #4.3) Jean Baptiste begins the “Woonsocket” Line, which eventually immigrates to Rhode Island.
  • Marie Marguerite Tetreault — (Generation 11.32) Marcel came across many variations of the surname “Tetreault.” He shows the two spellings most common. M-Marguerite also is shown with the “dit” name of “Ducharme” in some of the source documents.
  • 2nd & 3rd marriages — Second and third marriage information is from “AFGS” “Fichier Histor” books Ref #HSR 019 and #NSR 048 “Fichier Manuscript des Marriages du Quebec 1731 – 1825” and the “AFGS” “PRDH” database.
  • Therese and M-Josephe Hogue — It is possible that Gen #5.010 and #5.011 are one in the same person. They are both born in April 1753. (Generation 11.32) Marcel could not find a baptismal file for Therese, but found a “burial” file. He found a baptismal file for M-Josephe, but did not find a burial file for her. (Therese dies at eight days of age – “PRDH” file #272308.)
  • Typically, the location of Canada is shown for familiarity purposes. At this time in Canadian history, it would have been known as “Nouvelle France” (New France). See (Generation 11.32) Marcel’s “Introduction” and “Story of Pierre” for additional information. New France became the British Province of Quebec in 1763 after France ceded it in the Treaty of Paris at the end of the Seven Years’ War.
