About

Marie Angelique Coiteux is not the only child of Jacques Coetteux and Barbe Dumets that a Hogue will marry in this generation. Francois’s brother Jean Baptiste will marry who we believe to be M-Angelique’s sister, Barbe, named after her mother. Francois’s sister Marguerite will marry their brother, Jean, named after their father.

  • Hogue and Coiteux – The “Francois/Angelique” Hogues stay in Canada instead of immigrating to America, which (Generation 11.32) Marcel references as the “B” side of the Hogue family tree.   • Elisabeth — Elisabeth is listed in only the two sources shown above, with marriage to “Claude Vandandaique.” However, (Generation 11.32) Marcel believes that she is not the child of Angelique Coiteux, but rather the child of Barbe Coiteux, and is listed (we think) incorrectly for Angelique in those sources.
  • Francois Marie #3 — It is possible that Marie-Barbe and Francois are twins (born the same year): however, M-Barbe (“PRDH” documents #s 113210 & 130145) dies at 11 days old, and Francois (“PRDH” document #s 113209 & 130154) dies at 10 months old. And there are two previous children named “Francois” who also both possibly die before reaching maturity. More research needs to be done to ascertain the accuracy and number of children for Francois and Angelique.
  • Joseph – Could “Joseph” and the earlier “Joseph Amable” be the same? Information for the last Joseph is scarce and he is only listed in the “DGdQ” and “TER 054” references. (Generation 11.32) Marcel could not find birth, marriage, or death information for him.
  • In the course of (Generation 11.32) Marcel’s research, “Marie” and “Joseph” are often shown as the first name, but it is customarily dropped later in life. It was a Catholic-influenced tradition to name children after Mary and Joseph.
  • Typically, the location of Canada is shown for familiarity purposes. At this time in Canadian history, it would have been known as “Nouvelle France” (New France). See (Generation 11.32) Marcel’s “Introduction” and “Story of Pierre” for additional information. New France became the British Province of Quebec in 1763 after France ceded it in the Treaty of Paris at the end of the Seven Years’ War.
